why this exists
The program does not open with a highlight reel.
The summer after my freshman year at Oregon, I heard my stepfather and my twin brother arguing downstairs. Then a crash.
I assumed he had attacked my brother. I ran down there and beat him bloody on the floor.
It never happened. He was drunk and had fallen down the stairs on his own.
A restraining order kept me out of my own house for weeks. In a matter of seconds I could have lost my scholarship, my place on the team, and my freedom — over a story I never checked.
